At ProMo, we have a vision of Montrose Town Centre as a thriving hub for our community. We imagine a place where businesses, heritage and the community comes together and thrives.
Filling vacant units in our high street is key to this mission. The unit that was once home to M&Co sits in a prime location, right on the corner of the High Street and Hume Street. It comprises 1,546 sq m over four floors and has been empty since 2023. But where some see an empty building, we see an opportunity for something special!
We’ve been working away behind the scenes, thinking about how this property could be best used to serve our community, and we’ve come up with an ambitious plan. We propose turning this unit into a multi-purpose space that mixes retail and leisure with hospitality and living spaces. As its location is a key gateway to the town from the train station, this development will help to make every visitor’s first impression of Montrose one to remember.
Our proposal for the building:
- 4-lane ten-pin bowling alley
- Arcade and games areas with flexible breakout rooms
- A stylish café-bar
- Two new retail units
- 20 mixed-tenure residential flats with parking and outdoor space
- Replace the current concrete façade with a vibrant frontage
How we’re making this happen
This project is still in its early days, and while it won’t be simple – we believe in our vision. That’s why we’re taking all of the right steps at this concept stage:
- We’ve secured funding from Angus Council to take forward a feasibility study for our plans. This is the first step in turning our dream into a reality – ensuring that our ideas are suitable, realistic and will work for the building and the town.
- We’ve commissioned concept designs from our friends at Crawford Architecture, giving us an idea of what the finished project could look like. We were thrilled to share these and received amazing feedback from the community.
- We invited the community to come and visit the ProMo office to see the plans and chat to us.
- We’re now exploring funding opportunities with our partners and grant bodies that will be pivotal to bringing our vision to life.
